This ethnic wear was made most popular by bollywood actress Madhubala who herself performed the role of Anarkali in the film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. Without a doubt it’s to be the Anarkali churidar fits, back in style following a long time .Several Bollywood divas have been spotted wearing the Mughal-e-Azam look once again .Though the Anarkali covers you from head to toe, it’s still very sensuous and enhances the Indian beauty to its fullest.
Background – Anarkali was a dancer during the Mughal period. She was a dancer at palace of Mughal emperor Akbar. Anarkali was known for her dancing skills, as much as for her beauty. Salim, Akbar’s son was in love with Anarkali .The emperor could not digest the fact that his son was in love with an ordinary courtesan and she was entombed alive in a brick wall, right in front of her lover’s eyes.
The dresses were worn by the dancers at the palace of Mugal emperors which later become fashion trend in bollywood. These dancers used to perform dance called mujara. Dancers at palace of mughal kings dance for entertainment of Mughal kings. Anarkali dresses were worn by the dancers while performing mujara dance . Later they got famous by name Anarkali dress in the remembrance of Anarkali.
Rekha wore the same outfit umrao jaan and made anarkali style very popular in 1980’s.
The fabric used in making of Anarkali churidar may varies to formal ,casual ,party or wedding occasions from Georgette, Silk, Chanderi, Banarsi, Chiffon Brocade,Crepe and Silk but Silk ,chanderi and brocade are the most preferred fabric for Anarkali Suits due to the flow and shine in the cloth. Anarkali come back with Madhuri Dixit in devdas in 2002.
